LOST IN TRANSLATION

For many critics this is one of the best movies ever made, and of course it is one script by Sofia Coppola that reflects in the Bauman concept of Liquid Modernity, but it´s also about Liquid Love, a reflection on how this modern society has become utterly sick and disconnected with human polarity and fairness.

The story of a young woman, interpreted by Scarlett Johansen about to engage to a man that just betray her openly even though the marriage will soon happen and there is promise eternal happiness ever after. She refuses to believe her hollow life of preparing for something she never wanted and a middle age man, portrayed by Bill Murray, decadent famous actor that by all means tries to sell an image of mature man posing for commercials of a very distinctive brand of whiskey.

They both met at Tokyo, and they are confronted by a world, a society and a way of leaving to strange to understand, and they are facing the hangover of jet leg, together they are lost to that metropolis that never sleep, a very strange way of life from constant amusement to the depts of loneliness and regret.

There is an improbable love story or at least a gratitude and friendship encounter, from to depolarized human beings that fight to maintain their grounds. Being adult in a world that doesn’t speak your language is what drives this to ignorance. In that place of nowhere, two strangers get into an adventure through an alien world full of perils and surprises where there is a bliss of consumption that doesn’t get easy for them.

The aim of this plot is to reflet on how far from our culture this brave new world has developed because the consumption society that the so-called western society has brought to life is far from our culture and traditions, what is expected from a linear life evolution has been transformed into oblivion and wonder.

A strange kind bliss has been running in our brain, processing to much information and blocking our vital energy to rest and learn reality with fairness. The constant change, the multiplication of stimulation environments transforms our mind, body and soul and makes us lost in the translations of feelings.

A man conformed with life and a young woman in the brink of despair become soulmates for a while, as they discover a frail alliance against an alien world, full of differences, without humanity and logic, where there is no time to stop and no direction on the road, a plastic and neon world, where the illusion make the heart hollow, because freedom is a trap to transform curiosity into utilitarianism and sales, where the presence of the other is reduced to the oblivion of the empathy and loyalty.
